9 GRID THE BEDROOM PROJECT
This is a project that I was tasked to do when was in Year 1. The design intent statement is to design a ‘bedroom’ after analyzing the text ‘Species of Spaces and Other Pieces’ by Georges Perec.
After reading the text, I came into a conclusion to design a ‘bedroom’ where the surrounding is dark, with little openings. The design enables the user to do all his rituals comfortably on both the horizontal and vertical planes.
I learned design translation while doing this project as we were supposed to imagine what the ‘bedroom’ looks like by analyzing the text that was given.
We also had to carry out an ergonomic study so that we can design things that will be comfortable for the user to use for their specific needs. For example, my main furniture (as shown in the picture above) is designed in such a way that many activities can be carried out there. This is achieved after studying the different postures for different rituals such as studying, reading, sleeping and playing. As such, I played with the horizontal and vertical plans a lot before finally settling on the design
